The Magnificent Seven: The Highlights of E3 2016
The gaming behemoth that is E3 has now passed overhead, and it's time for a roundup of what's hot and what's not. I hope you guys like trailers. We've got so so many trailers for you.
We can skip the preamble; you know why you're here. Tell us the games you're most excited for in the comments. Here are seven that I was rather keen on.
We Happy Few
If We Happy Few can live up to the premise of the trailers shown so far, it's going to be your favourite roguelike of the year. Set in an alternate reality version of the 1960's, this indie horror game has you venturing through a society filled with viciously cheerful occupants who rely on a drug called Joy to keep their moods high.
Your protagonist is one of them, before his meds wear off and things get nasty. Most trailers end with your protagonist getting stomped into the ground, and the vibe is definitely 'creepy'. The setting, world and the vague feeling of Bioshock that permeates every part of the game means this is one to watch when it launches later this year.
Dishonored 2
Arkane are onto a winner. They've got two games on this list, and the first is Bethesda's shining star for E3 2016: Dishonored 2. We've got a whole new, intricately detailed setting to explore, and did we mention there are two playable characters to get to grips with?
The original protagonist, Corvo Attano, is returning, but the plot device/Empress from the original, Emily Kaldwin, is all grown up, playable and has her own particular set of skills that will make the two play in different way. This means the levels will unfold differently depending on who you choose to play as. It's Dishonored then, with all the choices and struggles that come with it, but something altogether a lot denser than we've seen before.
Prey
The second game from Arkane, Prey (2017) isn't the sequel to Prey (2006) we were expecting. It's a complete reboot for the alien invasion shooter, for a start, but it seems to be taking it down more of a horror bent, with the trailer above being more than a little reminiscent of Groundhog Day, but with less Bill Murray.
You play as Morgan Yu, a test subject aboard the Talos One space station. On the eve of a breakthrough, Aliens assault the space station and you need to use your as yet unspecified powers to try to survive. You won't be playing this one for a while, but the tone and mystery of this trailer make me anxious to see more.
